$10 a month. $10 of call credit, every month.
Your monthly subscription adds $10 to your call balance. Calls use that balance at 30¢ a minute. Unused credit rolls over every month and never expires.
In Canada, Standard is CA$10/month and Premium is CA$20/month. In the United States, they are US$10 and US$20/month. Your credit and call charges use the same currency as your subscription.
Your credit stays yours
There is no deadline to use it.
Every month, you pay your subscription and receive the same amount in call credit. Any credit left from earlier months stays in your balance. Extra credit you add never expires either.
A simple example
$4 left this month + $10 added next month = $14 in call credit.
How a month adds up
Calls are billed by the minute, and most calls are short. Your loved one hears your voice in a gentle conversation. The call winds down warmly at about five minutes and ends by ten. Here is what that looks like in dollars.
- A five-minute call
- About $1.50.
- A call every day for a month, five minutes each
- About $45. Your $10 of credit covers roughly the first week; the rest is drawn from top-ups as she uses it.
- Your $10 of credit
- About 33 minutes of calls, included in the month's $10.
- After each call
- You can read every call and what it cost: the time, the length, a one-line summary, a mood note and the full transcript, all in your account.
Topping up
Add any amount from $5 to $500 when you choose, or set an automatic top-up and decide the amount once. Either way, you decide.

Some weeks she calls twice; some weeks it is every morning before you have found your keys. Any credit you do not use stays in your account. When the balance is low, you add what you like. If you would rather not watch a balance, set an automatic top-up in the amount you choose; it happens only when the credit runs down, and you can change or stop it whenever you want.
If the credit does run out, nothing goes wrong on her side. Her call simply rings your own phone, and we email you so you can top up when you are able. She is never told anything about credit.
Compared with the alternatives
This is not a replacement for a person. It is for the hours when there is no person, and for the calls you cannot answer yourself.

| Option | What it is | Cost | Who answers her call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human respite care | A trained worker comes to the house for a few hours | Varies by provider, hours and public funding | A person, during the booked hours |
| Other phone companion services | Features vary: compare incoming calls, check-ins and reminders | Check the provider's current rates and included minutes | Your recorded voice, or an assistant voice |
| Voice Companion | Your recorded voice answers when you cannot, in the hours you choose; it never phones her | $10/month includes $10 of credit; calls use credit at 30¢/minute | Your own voice, in your own words |
Changing your mind
Cancel any time. Nobody will phone to talk you out of it.
Cancel from your account whenever you like. There is no contract and no notice period, and you do not have to give a reason. Your recordings, your transcripts and your call history stay yours to read until you ask us to remove them.
Prices are in CAD in Canada and USD in the United States. Your $10 is charged each month and becomes credit; minutes come out of that credit at 30¢ each.
Questions about money
If yours is not here, call or write. You will reach one of the two people who run Voice Companion, not a call centre.
